Chamber Music Summer School - Mount Buller runs each January at the Mount Buller Ski village situated in the north-eastern alps of Victoria. This residential school caters for up to 12 chamber string groups, composed mainly of string players. Pre-organisation of the summer school is carried out each year by an experienced committee who also attend the school. The 2014 school will take place between January 19 and 26. The summer school fee including all tuition, accommodation and meals for 7 days is $960.
January 2014 will mark the 30th Summer School at Mount Buller and we are delighted to celebrate this anniversary by welcoming back some good friends from its early years. Cellist Janis Laurs was founding Artistic Director of CMSS-MB in 1985 and in that year also a founding member of the Australian String Quartet with colleagues William Hennessy, Keith Crellin and Douglas Weiland. A year later Janis returned to the Summer School with his ASQ colleagues and CMSS-MB was firmly established. This fruitful relationship continued for many years, with Elinor Levy (Lea) replacing Douglas Weiland in 1990, and was a major factor in creating a national reputation for the Summer School.
Professional direction and running of the summer school are provided by visiting staff who vary each year, and on this occasion we are very pleased that Janis Laurs, William Hennessy, Elinor Levy and Keith Crellin will return as a quartet to lead the summer school, its performances and tutoring. We are also pleased to welcome noted teacher and violinist Robin Wilson and chamber musician and teacher, cellist Michael Dahlenburg.
